2016 Cabernet Sauvignon 1856
Working with the Lamoreaux family, now the longest owners of the historic Oak Knoll Ranch, we have crafted Materra’s new flagship Cabernet Sauvignon from their benchland vineyard site.
The 2015 1856 starts off with aromas of ripe plum, toasty vanilla, brown sugar, and an herbal lavender essence. Extended maceration of these grapes leads to an inky dark color in the glass, providing the anticipation of a full-bodied and generous mouthfeel, which definitely does not disappoint once you take the first sip.
The initial taste explodes on the palate with Bing cherry, cassis, and blackberry leading into a very chewy mid-palate loaded with dusty cocoa powder and a hint of minerality. The finish is a velvety medley of shortcake, dark chocolate, and caramel which is powerful, but also quite smooth.
